Alistair Overeem continues his rein in Strikeforce
Alistair Overreem was scheduled to be making his first Strikeforce heavyweight title defense in a rematch against Fabricio Werdum at Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg, but had to pull out yet again due to another hand injury that was reported to be caused by a drunken night club brawl.
Overeem then went on to take down Tony Sylvester at Golden Glory’s 10 year anniversary celebration with an amazing standing guilotine choke. Then a little over a week later, he used the same choke technique against James Thompson where he submitted him at Dream 12.
Overeem once again set out to face Brett Rogers on May 15 th 2010 at Strikeforce: Heavy Artliary, where he would defend his Strikeforce heavyweight championship title. He wont the bout by technical knock out via punches, in the first round. In his interview after the fight Alistair Overeem UFC stated once again that he wanted to fight the famed Fedor Emelianenko stating that Fedor’s managment company could no longer ignore who he was. Leading up to the fight, most of Overeem’s trainng was at the new Golden Glory Gym in Pattaya Thailand, where he worked on his Muay Thai skills.
Alistiar then went on to face Todd Duffee on December 31 2010 at Dynamite! 2010. Overeem of course defeated Duffee in his standerd brawler fashion via knock out in just 21 seconds of the very first round and went on to win the Dream Interrim Heavy Weight CHampionship. What will be next for the Dutch Brawler? Wait and see.
